Well I’m 31! Truth be told, I always say I’m older than I really am anyway. For one reason, it makes it easier to cope with. For another, I just love getting older. I love it.
So this year, what do I believe I should focus on? That’s a question I like to ask. I remember praying for wisdom when I was younger. I had finished reading about Solomon. I think it’s even more fitting to ask for wisdom as I grow older. Is there anything as annoying as an ignorant older person?
Thirty-one will bring its challenges. My knees and back make a lot more noise than they used to. Yet, I’m continuing to understand how much more of a blessing it is to wake up, albeit with some minor aches and pains. I tore my ACL twice and fractured a kneecap playing basketball, so the creaks are part of the territory.
All I’m saying is, growing older is much more fun when we realize the blessing it is to grow older. Life gets tough, there’s no doubt about that, but since we know it, do we need to add to the drudgery or dread? Life is a blessing, and until mine is over I’m accepting all the blessings God has for me on this side of eternity.
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. – Psalm 90:12
