First World Problems

My brother has this saying, “first world problems.” I have to say it’s one of the best sayings I’ve ever heard.

When the Wi-Fi is down that’s a first world problem. When gas goes up, that’s a first world problem. You actually have a car to drive. When you can’t decide what you want to eat, that my friend, is a first world problem. When the cable is down that is a first world problem. TV itself could be considered a first world problem.

The point is, we get caught up on luxuries. It’s nice to have internet. It’s a treat to watch a little TV. But no matter how we choose to look at these things, they are in fact luxuries. So when they don’t function properly, it’s a first world problem because in comparison to hunger, homelessness, and places without civil rights and religious freedom, they aren’t problems at all.

And if anything, they only remind us of how spoiled we are. When my internet is down or when my cable is out, they aren’t problems. They’re just inconveniences.
