Jesus Washed Feet

I’m reading “Grace,” by Max Lucado. It is an awesome read, of course. Mr. Lucado doesn’t disappoint when it comes to writing.

In one chapter he makes a simple statement. And actually before I read it, the thought hit me. “Jesus washed feet.”

Isn’t that crazy? Jesus washed feet. God in the form of man, kneeled down to wash dirty feet. He washed poop off of His betrayer. He washed dirt off of backsliders. He washed dust off of deniers. He washed feet.

He took a servant’s position, the position of a slave to wash the feet of those who wouldn’t even walk with Him to Calvary. He washed the feet of those who would run from the truth of knowing Him. He washed the feet of the one who would race to betray Him.

Jesus washed feet.

Yet, we won’t take the trash out. We won’t volunteer at a homeless shelter. We won’t even share food or time. But, our Savior washed feet.

Today, think about that. Think about the things that you are unwilling to do, and the things that Jesus very willingly did. Think about who He is and the example He set.

Now, do you feel like washing some feet?

John 13: 12 –17 After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.
