Often times we pray to be lights in a dark world. I know I do. But there’s something I forget when I say that prayer. I forget that I don’t have to be a spotlight or some grandiose chandelier. I could only be candlelight and still be a light in this dark world.
Before we left the hospital today someone mentioned prayer. I simply said you know, we need to pray because we haven’t yet. And when I finished praying it was a peaceful energy in the room. The baby had fallen asleep and everything was right.
It didn’t take a speech. It didn’t take a mission trip. It didn’t take a donation to the hospital or anything like that. It simply took time.
I’m so grateful for God. And I’m grateful to be used by Him. And a lot of times when I think about being a light for Him I think it has to be some grand gesture. It doesn’t. It’s as simple as saying, let’s pray.
We should never allow our goals to be so great that we focus on them being great and miss out on accomplishing what God wants us to.
Speeches can be moving. Mission trips are great. And organizations need donations. But everyone isn’t called to do those things. Some of us are called to pray. Some of us are called to be present in the moment. And still some of us are called to witness in some way.
I guess my point is that we can never mistake any work we do, that’s Kingdom work, seem like it’s a small matter. Being a light in a dark world takes only a spark. Do you have the lighter?
Matthew 5:15-16New Living Translation (NLT)
15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
