I’m going to spend a couple of days on faith and worry. Let’s face it, we can all always use some time to focus on the two.
Mark 4:38 – 41
38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”
39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves,“Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”
It’s easy to worry. Once you start worrying you see how difficult it is, but at first it’s easy to believe worry is a solution when things go wrong.
It was easy to believe that they would drown in the storm than it was to believe God was on a boat with them and had power over it.
It’s easy.
As humans, I believe we gravitate to what’s easiest. It’s easier to use credit cards than it is to save money. It’s easier to get fast food than it is to cook healthy. It’s easier to use every other method of weight loss than it is to just workout.
We like easy. Easy is a momentary solvent, and, it is, well, easier than finding a real, lasting one.
But God didn’t call us to easy, did He? He called us to a life of faith.
