Sometimes it’s really hard to do good. If I’m being completely honest, it’s really hard to do good and not want people to know it. It’s not easy being the only one to know that you gave your last $100 to charity. It’s not easy knowing that you spent your whole weekend volunteering and no one cared.
Yeah, I love that Beyoncé might have donated a few thousand of her millions, but I gave my whole $100 of the $200 I had! I worked a year underpaid for the sake of the cause! I washed dishes and clothes that weren’t mine so no one else would have to! How do I not ask for my shiny badge of honor?
You simply don’t ask because you know it’s more than that. God has blessed you with a servant spirit. Although it’s not always easy to serve, it’s always worth it. And believe it or not, it’s always noticed. You’re doing all that you do for so much more than people and recognition. You’re doing it for God, and because you’re doing for Him, no reward can compare.
When you’re busy serving God and serving for Him, you don’t have to say anything. Others will say it all.
Your service to God is so important to Him that He needs you to keep doing it. He knows that there isn’t any time for you to spend praising yourself, because the job you do requires all of you. Your job is so important to Him that He gives the assignment to recognize others to other people. Anyone could boast in their own accomplishments. It really doesn’t mean anything until God sends other people to do it for you. To think, we think our efforts go unnoticed, and all along God is saying, “If you only knew what I see and the heart I see behind it all.”
Proverbs 27:2 (NLT)
2 Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth— a stranger, not your own lips.
