Our Father

“Our Father.”

Jesus taught a lot in those two words. He actually taught us what we can expect and know about a good father. Yes, in those two words. Here’s what I’ve learned from those two words:

  1. Good fathers listen. Jesus was talking to God, Our Father, why? Well for one thing, because He knew He could speak and be heard. He knew, that God, the Father, listens and hears. He wanted His disciples to know the same.

  2.  “Our Father” reminds us that we belong to a family. Fathers are meant to be the heads of households. Fathers are meant to be the leaders. Our Father is Head over everything. God is in charge. And to be a child of God means that He is your Father, which means, you belong to His family.

  3.  Father signifies a relationship. Father is someone who was present in their child’s life, not just around with his presence. We hear a relationship and respect when we hear father. Your Heavenly Father wants relationship respect.

Our Father wasn’t just a cute way to pray. It wasn’t just a new way to pray. It was a way to pray with the reminder that God, a Good Father, listens. To remind us that we belong to him, and to humble us with the reality that God in Heaven wants a relationship with us.

Matthew 6:9-13 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.11 Give us this day our daily bread.12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
