Open my Mind

Please open my mind!

Luke 24:45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.

I can read my Bible all day, everyday. But it takes a few things to make reading the Bible life-changing.

First, understanding. If I don’t understand what I’m reading, then I’m not comprehending what God is saying am I?

Second, it requires doing. If I’m not doing what the Word is saying, then what am I doing with it? I’ve read it, in reading I’ve accepted the accountability for what I read, so now it must be done.

James 1: 22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

Third, praying. If I don’t pray for understanding before and after I read how likely am I to get it? If I don’t pray to be obedient to do God’s will, then where will the strength come from?

I have to pray for God to open my mind when I read. As smart as I like to think I am, I’m not close to being smart enough to fully grasp God’s words. No, no. It takes godly wisdom and understanding. It takes earnest prayer for understanding. And it especially takes God opening my mind to it all.
