What is margin?
My student asked me what I was doing with my time to keep busy. I laughed. My question is how do I not stay busy?!
There’s this wisdom I lack for certain. Much wisdom I lack, but lately the obvious is how to create margin. I know it’s possible, because I’ve seen it done, but I’m really not understanding how to do it. I look at my schedule, along with my life, and mix that with hopes and dreams, and walk away asking God how in the world is all of this supposed to happen?!?
It’s becoming harder and harder to see book titles and podcasts, organizations, and blog posts. Why? Because those titles, podcasts, organizations, and posts are the titles I had for my books, podcasts, organizations, and posts. I’m seeing someone achieve what I hoped to. That’s hard.
But it all goes back to this familiar verse. Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. Psalms 90:12 NLT
God teach me that life is short in comparison to eternity. Teach me that every second is valuable. Teach me that creating margin is possible. Teach me that the only way to know how is through Your wisdom.
My prayer is for margin. My prayer is for godly wisdom to know what that looks like. It will start with knowing what God deems necessary and what can wait. Work is necessary, but sometimes it can wait. People are necessary, but sometimes they can wait.
God, teach me to make the most of my time that I may grow in wisdom for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
