Madam CJ Walker – Entrepreneur

file-2

Entrepreneur – a person who organizes and operates a business or businesses, taking on greater than normal financial risks in order to do so.

If you want to talk about being an entrepreneur, you want to talk about Madam CJ Walker. This woman went on to create multiple hair care products for African American women, and has been credited with being one of the first self-made female millionaires. And this was at a time when women hardly had any rights!

Can you imagine the doubts she battled with? But when you’re an entrepreneur, you just use them as fuel for your fire. Or in her case, as ingredients for your product.

Mrs. Walker’s products included a scalp treatment for African America women. So if there are any scalp treatments in your memory or use, you probably have Madam CJ Walker to thank for that. She reminds me that the sky is the limit. And she motivates me to never take dreams for granted, because it was in a dream that she came up with the ingredients to use for her treatments.

In a dream, she says God answered her prayers concerning her hair loss. “One night I had a dream, and in that dream a big black man appeared to me and told me what to mix up for my hair. Some of the remedy was grown in Africa, but I sent for it, mixed it, put it on my scalp, and in a few weeks my hair was coming in faster than it had ever fallen out. I tried it on my friends; it helped them. I made up my mind to begin to sell it.”

Let Madam CJ Walker remind you that you don’t have to be a businessman to have a business. Thank you Mrs. Walker.

I had to make my own living and my own opportunity. But I made it! Don’t sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them. – Madam CJ Walker
