Light spreads. This morning when I was praying I got to a point when I had to say, “God just please let me not contribute to the darkness that’s already there. Let me be a light.” And as simple as I know this is, it hit me, light spreads.
When there is light, there is not darkness, because light drives out the dark. That’s light’s job, to brighten things wherever it is. If it didn’t it would be no good.
In short, that’s my job. As a Christian I am called to be a light in a dark world. Regardless of my circumstances, that’s my job. It’s irrelevant whether I feel like it or not. It doesn’t matter if I don’t like where I am, I have one job. To be a light. If I don’t do that, I’m no good.
Being a light means glorifying God. It means making the unpopular decision sometimes. It means being where I don’t want to be, but encouraging others while I’m there. It means sacrificing what I want for what God needs me to do.
My light has been mighty dim. It’s been dim at work. It’s been dim in my relationships. It’s been close to fading away. That’s definitely not OK. I’ve been in bitter darkness, thus affecting my light. And now that I know that, I also have to know the formula to solve it. I must be prayerful, study the scriptures, and spend time with God. That’s the formula.
And now that I’ve spent time with Him, He’s shown me the solution. Joy. In order for me to be a light, in order to get this bitterness out, I need to be joyful. Take it from me, don’t let your light dim. It’s harder to light it back than it is to keep it lit.
Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
