It Plagues Me

I wonder how often we cause even more harm to situations than there would have originally been when we try to prove that we are just as great.

I’m reading Exodus 8:6 -7 and I must admit, I chuckled at the Egyptian magicians.

6 So Aaron raised his hand over the waters of Egypt, and frogs came up and covered the whole land! 7 But the magicians were able to do the same thing with their magic. They, too, caused frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.

In trying to prove that they were just as good as God all they did was increase the very plague that God had sent on them. They were using magic to try to prove that their gods were just as good as the one and only God. Because God allowed them to think that, they were doing nothing more but increasing the very thing they wanted to be delivered from. That’s not good. And it’s definitely not smart.

Now we may not be worshipping other gods or anything like that, but how often do we want to prove we can handle it, only to increase the intensity of what we don’t want? How often do we want to be debt-free and prove we can manage money, yet we skimp on our tithes? Every now and then don’t we believe that one small lie won’t hurt anything?

I’m just curious. How many times was I in a situation I wanted to be delivered from, but being the one to intensify it on my own? How many frogs did I wish to be ridded of, while I was busy inviting more into my pond?
