Holy Anticipation v. Dread

Sometimes we say well I just wanted it too bad or I was just too excited about it.

I think the opposite is true. Sometimes I’m not excited enough. Had I been more excited wouldn’t it have been all the more amazing? I need to go to bed with holy anticipation and wake up with it. So excited that something God wants done today will be done.

If we knew all that God really wanted to do for us we would be blown away by how amazing His blessings for us are. We would be utterly amazed at what our witness could lead to.

The fact that God is God is reason enough to be excited about anything. I’m a “dreadder.” To my shame I have mastered dreading things. And the more I’ve stopped dreading the more I’ve been able to watch God work. I’ve learned that when I dread, I miss the beauty of what is. I miss the joy of the opportunity to do for God.

God has had to teach me how to look forward to my day. So what if I don’t want to work? Who cares if I don’t feel like going to the store? I don’t get to dread the very things that God can use to create the best opportunities to do a work for Him.

When I dread, I’m saying God just get me through the day, setting the low expectation. When I’m excited about the possibilities of the day, I’m raising the bar and my own awareness to what could be. I’m saying God use every situation I’m in in a way that will best honor you. The first mindset is limited. The second mindset is limitless.

Oftentimes we set the bar too low. We set goals and dreams low enough to make sure that they are attainable just in case, as if we don’t have a God that can do all things.

Ephesians 3: 20 (NLT)

20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Holy anticipation makes everything that much better. It honors God much more than dread ever will. And it creates a desire to watch God work and be a part of His work. I shutter at the thought of how many great opportunities I’ve missed to honor God simply because I was too busy dreading them.

When everything God does is for our best, what are we really dreading?

Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
