Hear me out on this. I don’t want to offend anyone. I just want to share a thought.
Is the lifelikeness of video games a factor in gun-related violence?
I was watching TV with my dad one day, and a commercial came on that I thought was a movie trailer. And I said aloud, why do they make these games look so real? And as soon as I said it, I answered my own question. Is it because kids play these games and go out thinking that if they shoot someone it’s not that big of a deal because they’ll get another life like they do in games?
Now, it could be far fetched thinking, but I don’t think we should rule it out. I’m not saying don’t play games, who would do that??? But I am saying that the fantasy of video games, has distorted the reality of the real world in some minds.
Think about it. We’re not talking about Mario jumping on a turtle’s head anymore. We’re way past the Galaga and Pac-Man days. We have actual games about shooting people. Is there not something wrong with that picture?
Do we not think in some kind of way that could influence a child’s view of what’s real? Granted, I don’t have any children so I’m not giving any parental advice, but I do want people to be careful. There’s something spiritual at the root of everything. The ongoing question is which spirit is that kind of fruit.
