Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. – Galatians 6:7-8 NLT
At first, I read this verse and thought, “hhmmm that’s kind of scary, harvesting what I’ve planted…” I’ll admit, I’ve planted some pretty poor things.
I’ve planted bad relationship habits. I’ve planted poor self images or poor influences on my self-image. I’ve planted some bad decisions. I don’t want to harvest any of that!
While it’s true that I’ve planted those things in my life, I’m grateful for what happened when Christ became my life. My life in Christ is to live to please the Spirit. Those mistakes and sins were planted, but Jesus uprooted it in my life. Now, if I’m still living to please my sinful nature, that’s different, but since I have a new life in Christ, I don’t have to worry about the harvest of death and decay from those things.
In fact, I have a brand new harvest to look forward to–everlasting life from the Spirit. Now, that’s a harvest I can’t wait to reap.
