God Loves Me that Much?

A very interesting scripture is John 17:23. Jesus is speaking and He says:

I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me (New Living Translation).

What’s interesting is the fact that Jesus says, you love them as much as you love me. To think that a perfect God can love us the way He does is almost strange. It’s breathtaking and almost unbelievable, right?

Here I am. I’m imperfect. I’m disobedient. I’m a bit of a mess. But God loves me.

How can this be? It’s almost too good to be true.

But because it is love, and God is love, it all makes sense. I know God, I understand that humanly speaking, yes it is too good to be true from that aspect. But spiritually speaking, because God is good, it’s so good that it has to be true. It has to be true that He can love me the way He does, because He is good and His love is good. So if this love seems “too good” it must be God and it must be true.

And either way you try to explain this wonderful phenomenon of God’s love, I’m just thankful that I’m a recipient.
