Fear God

You know, the real issue is that we don’t fear God enough. I’m reading Exodus 20 and verses 19 and 20 stood out to me.

19 And they said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen. But don’t let God speak directly to us, or we will die!”

20 “Don’t be afraid,” Moses answered them, “for God has come in this way to test you, and so that your fear of him will keep you from sinning!”

If we feared God like we should or like we say we do, then we really wouldn’t sin as much as we do. That’s the truth of the matter, we don’t fear God enough to fear the consequences of sin so we keep sinning.

If I felt like I was going to be punished by my parents every time I made a bad grade I would study harder. Obviously sin is a much bigger deal, but it’s a similar thought process. If I felt the wrath or the wrong of sin, and feared God and how He handles sin, then I really wouldn’t sin as much.

I wouldn’t have an inclination to sin. Obviously, it’s human nature so we will sin, but if I feared God the way I said I do then I definitely wouldn’t sin as often and I definitely wouldn’t commit the same sins as I have before.

If I really feared God’s wrath, would I really continue in that sin?
