Change Me?

People don’t want to or they don’t care. That’s what most things in life come down to. And it’s hard to admit, right? It’s hard to hear yourself say it aloud, but it’s true.

Don’t wonder why he doesn’t make a better effort in the relationship. Don’t ask why they don’t try harder in school. Don’t wrack your brain trying to figure out why they don’t help more. They don’t care. Or they just don’t want to. It’s one of the two.

And the same thing is applicable to our spiritual life just like it is to our daily life. As I cry out to God asking Him to change me, I have to realize that any changes I haven’t experienced are simply because I don’t want to change. God can change people, He can change situations, and He can change hearts. But a crucial piece of that change is that it has to take a person to want Him to change them.

I give into the temptation of sin. I have no one to blame but myself. I don’t want to change is the ugly truth, And the fact is, until I want to, I won’t. It’s disappointing. I am disappointed that instead of choosing what’s best I settle for all the rest.

When God wants to make me better, why don’t I want Him to?
