Luke 5:6-7 6 And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! 7 A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.
That’s a lot of fish. I was reading this today, and I couldn’t think of anything else to say. That’s a lot of fish! Think about it.
It’s one thing for one boat to be on the verge of sinking. That’s amazing enough, especially when you’ve been out fishing all night and haven’t caught anything. But we do serve a God that goes the extra mile, as Jesus tells us to do.
So because amazing is too simple, God does extraordinary. It says that both boats were on the verge of sinking! Wow! Not only were the nets full. Not only was one boat filled, but both boats were on the verge of sinking from the catch of the day!
What a great reminder of God’s provision and wonder. We can spend all night trying to catch a break, or trying to fix things or change a situation. But for all our work and toil, we’ll only have a little to show for it. It’s not until we hear and heed God’s instructions that we receive the “catch of the day.”
Aren’t you tired of coming up short? Aren’t you tired of being empty? Well let’s heed God’s instructions and see what we pull in. My guess is, we’ll be so amazed that we’ll fall to our faces like Peter, in awe of His goodness and provision.
Luke 5:8-9 8 When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” 9 For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him.
