What always interests me is that when you read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, there are many times people say things to themselves or think it. Luke 7 says that Simon said to himself….
But what I can’t understand is how a person can say something to himself and not be in awe that Jesus responds. Like it’s one thing to question His deity when you’re just choosing not to believe, but what about when He’s responding to your current thoughts that only you know?
Simon says to himself that if Jesus only knew who was touching Him, he pretty much wouldn’t allow her to touch Him. That’s a pretty direct thought to have and yet Jesus responds directly to his thought. To his thought. Not to what he did, not to what he actually said aloud, to his thought.
If you think Jesus doesn’t know, He does. And He knows what you’re thinking. It seems rather obvious who is Jesus is, doesn’t it? But when doubt fills up a person the obvious becomes quite obsolete.
My prayer is that I don’t miss the obvious. I don’t want to be so caught up in who’s worshipping Jesus and what they look like that I miss Him in front of me myself.
Simon had a really special opportunity. He neglected Jesus even the most basic of courtesies, and he consumed himself with the doubt of who Jesus was rather than the determination to believe in Him. See, this account is about the immoral woman. She had done a lot and Jesus makes it clear. But He also made it clear that by faith she had been forgiven.
I think the sad thing about this is that she didn’t have to be the only one that walked away forgiven that day. But she was the only one who chose faith in Jesus Christ, so she was the one who was saved and forgiven much. She chose Jesus, who do you choose today?
When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner!” Then Jesus answered his thoughts. “Simon,” he said to the Pharisee, “I have something to say to you.” “Go ahead, Teacher,” Simon replied.

I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.” The men at the table said among themselves, “Who is this man, that he goes around forgiving sins?” And Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
